Steps for Making a Reading Treasure Map using Microsoft Publisher
1. Open Publisher, choose Blank Presentation and go to File: Page Setup.
- On the Layout tab change orientation to Landscape.
- Click on Printer & Paper Tab and change paper size to Legal.
2. Place your first image in upper left hand corner (make sure your SRC CD is in disk drive!).
- Click on Insert: Picture: From File and select "2007 CSLP for CD..."
- Choose, size and place the image you select. You can reduce the size of the image by clicking on a corner and dragging it towards the center of the image.
3. Place a text box next to the graphic and type your opening statement or clue.
- Click on Insert: Text Box.
- Click target (+) where box should be and drag to size the box.
- Click inside box and type text. Text box can be resized and moved as needed.
4. Making steps or path for stamping.
- You can use shapes provided by Publisher or draw your own (or use any graphic or clip art that you choose).
- Click on Autoshapes icon in Objects Toolbar – if toolbar is not visible, click on View: Toolbars: Objects.
- To keep all shapes identical, copy your shape and paste as needed. Shapes can be resized and moved as needed.
- To place numbers inside objects, insert a small text box inside object and type the number (see step 3 for text box).
5. Insert additional graphics and text at regular intervals along your path following steps 2-4.
6. To outline a text box, right-click on text box and click Format Text Box.
- In Color box under Line, choose a color.
- Choose Dashed, Style, Weight to get desired effect.
- You can also get fancy and click on Border Art.
